MARDIS ON OVERCOMING MAJOR CAREER TRANSITIONS

Mardis faced a significant career challenge when she transitioned from academia to the corporate world. After nearly a decade in academia, conducting research and teaching, she felt the need for a change due to the isolating nature of lab work and the demanding culture. To achieve a better work-life balance and fulfill her professional aspirations, she relocated from Iceland to Austria and started a new role from the bottom as a team assistant. Through perseverance, dedication, and demonstrating her skills, she rose to the position of Chief Operating Officer. This journey taught her the importance of embracing change, taking risks, and staying true to her values.

MARDIS ON FOSTERING A SUPPORTIVE AND INCLUSIVE WORK ENVIRONMENT

As a leader, Mardis is committed to creating a supportive and inclusive work environment that prioritizes empathy, teamwork, and collaboration. She believes in investing in the growth and development of her team members, recognizing that their success contributes to the overall success of the organization. By incorporating a coaching mindset and providing personalized guidance, she empowers her team to thrive and excel in their roles. Despite the challenges of balancing empathy with decisiveness, Mardis understands that fostering a positive work culture where everyone feels valued and supported leads to sustainable success.
