JESSI AS A LEADER

Success has evolved from being able to take a salary to growing our team and expanding strategic partnerships, aiming to make women entrepreneurs of color a norm.

Leadership is not a marathon, but a continuous learning journey.

Great Leaders have incredible emotional intelligence.

The future of leadership is all of us.

When I think of a leader, I think of someone who has the vision to set clear ambitious goals and builds advocacy while attracting followers who support those goals.

JESSI ON OVERCOMING MICROMANAGEMENT AND BUILDING TRUST

Jessi's initial leadership style involved micromanagement, which led to short-term results but ultimately hurt employee morale and company culture. Realizing the need for change, Jessi worked closely with a career coach to develop a healthier leadership approach. This involved timing her assistance wisely, clarifying her role in accelerating employee growth, and aligning her involvement with individual and group needs. By shifting from control to support, Jessi rebuilt trust within her team and fostered a more positive, collaborative work environment.

JESSI ON TRANSITIONING FROM START-UP CULTURE TO WORK-LIFE BALANCE

Building Kouri-Vini Consulting from scratch into a multi-million dollar international advisory firm required wearing multiple hats and juggling numerous responsibilities. As the firm expanded, Jessi and her team worked with human resources to transition from a start-up culture to one that supports work-life balance. This shift involved foresight, planning, and action to increase productivity, reduce stress, and improve overall physical and mental health for employees. The goal was to create a sustainable work environment that values and supports its workforce.

AS A BLACK, QUEER, DISABLED WOMAN FROM A LOW-INCOME BACKGROUND, I UNDERSTAND THE VALUE OF HAVING A SEAT AT THE DECISION-MAKING TABLE. THE CUMULATION OF THOSE EXPERIENCES HAS TRANSFORMED ME INTO A MORE PASSIONATE AND INCLUSIVE LEADER WHO ACTIVELY SEEKS OPPORTUNITIES TO SUPPORT THOSE MOST MARGINALIZED.
